Jon Stewart Returns to ‘Daily Show’ Nearly Nine Years After Leaving

Jon Stewart is back at the helm The Daily Shownine years after he left the series and was replaced by Trevor Noah.

Following Noah’s departure in late 2022, the late night news comedy series began searching for a new host, with a rotation of other potential talent in the anchor’s seat. However, after a year of changing guest hosts, the show went back to the main architect, Stewart.

Stewart sat behind the desk for his big return on Monday to huge cheers and applause, as he joked, “Where was I now?”

About his return, Stewart joked, “I’ve been guilty a lot, and from what I understand, talk show hosts get immunity.”

After touching on the Super Bowl and mocking right-wing conspiracy theories about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, Stewart turned to the main topic of the night: the 2024 presidential election, and took a closer look at President Joe Biden. and former President Donald Trump.

Stewart was clearly brought in for his experience in political theater, and the seasoned professional immediately slipped back into his old groove as he deftly handled and anchored the politically focused episode with humor and gravity in equal measure.

One of the highlights of the episode came when Stewart contacted his news team
correspondents – including Dulcé Sloan, who commented on the options Americans have to choose from when it comes to voting.

“This is exactly the same again, it’s just a reboot. We need more than just the same show with an older but familiar face,” said Sloan, who was not subtly mocking Stewart’s return as host.

“You… you’re talking about the two candidates, right?” Stewart asked sheepishly.

‘Yes! I mean, they already had this job,” she replied. “Now these old white guys have to come and reclaim it? Come on, sir. Go do something new. It’s so desperate. Let someone else run the show.”

“You’re talking about the elections, right?” Stewart asked again.

“I said what I said,” Sloan shot back.

While Stewart has returned, the comic will only run on Mondays. Members of the show’s news team will steer the ship for the rest of the week, with Jordan Klepper returning to the series and anchoring in the coming days.

The Daily Show airs weekdays at 11pm ET/PT on Comedy Central, and the new episode will be available the following day on Paramount+.
