CBS
Dick Van Dijk has a storied and storied career in showbiz, but the man says he probably could have come off his game early and conquered a lot more than he already did.
The iconic entertainer, who just turned 98 last week, was profiled in a new ‘CBS Sunday morning‘ episode this weekend … in which he reflected on his many years of work in Hollywood and beyond, the prolific achievements of which he calls nothing but dumb luck.
Look… Dick says that everything that ever came his way professionally – and I think it was a lot – was just luck… because according to him, he wasn’t a fighter.
DVD says he wasn’t looking for jobs or gigs in his early days, explaining that things naturally fell into his lap. In fact, he even goes so far as to say that he’s a lazy guy by nature… which is insane considering how much work he has under his belt.
The way he puts it, he went out to make a movie or something, came home… and was literally waiting for the phone to ring with a new opportunity – and they always came.
The interviewer sounds incredulous and asks if he really didn’t plan all the success he’s had – to which he says… not really. Somehow he goes on to claim that he doesn’t have much drive!
Even though his long line of great art was all accidental, we’re glad it worked out. Dick is a national treasure, and the fact that he’s still as sharp as he is… nothing short of a blessing.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Van Dyke!!!
