Luton players applaud the crowd after their match at Bournemouth was abandoned after captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch

Luton Town’s Premier League match at Bournemouth, which was abandoned after captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch, will be replayed in full.

Lockyer suffered cardiac arrest during Saturday’s match, with both teams leaving as he was treated on the pitch. He responded quickly as he was taken away on a stretcher.

The match was 1-1 when it was abandoned in the 59th minute.

A statement from the Premier League said the match would be moved to later in the season.

After his collapse, Lockyer was taken to hospital where he underwent tests and scans.

The Premier League statement added: “The decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute was taken jointly by the match officials, players, managers of both clubs and the Premier League.

“The league would like to thank the medical staff and everyone involved for their swift action in response to a situation that is extremely worrying for everyone.

“We wish Tom a continued recovery and our thoughts are with him, his family and everyone at Luton Town FC.”

Luton said on Sunday that Lockyer remained in hospital but said they would not be providing “ongoing commentary” on their defender’s health.
