Family who won life-changing €3.8million Lotto prize reveal unusual ticket hideout

A FAMILY syndicate who won a €3,867,027 Lotto prize has told how they kept their lucky ticket”hidden in the wardrobe‘ as they accepted their life-changing award today.

The winners, who bought their ticket for the October 4 draw from the Applegreen petrol station on Naul Road in Dublin’s Balbriggan, were delighted to collect their half of last Wednesday’s €7.7 million jackpot.

And the happy clan remembered the moment when they discovered the huge victory.

A delighted member of the group said: “We’ve been playing the same songs for years, so as soon as I saw the results I knew we’d won.

“I still wanted to check and triple check, so I scanned the ticket on the phone.

“I’m used to being told I’ve won a small amount of money, but when I got the ‘Congratulations’ message telling me to contact National Lottery head office, I knew we had definitely won.”

And deciding where to store the ticket proved a challenge for the winners who had a whirlwind week.

They continued: “The main priority over the past week has been keeping the ticket safe.

“I first hid it in the wardrobe between a pile of folded t-shirts and then the hiding place kept changing.

“At one point I wanted to keep the ticket with me everywhere, but that was too much! There is definitely a lot of pressure, so I’m very happy to be able to hand over the ticket today.”

The family plans to take some time to plan what to do with their new fortune.

They said: “I still can’t believe we’re Lotto jackpot winners – even though we’re finally here in the Winners’ Room!

‘Letting the news fully sink in is the first thing we plan to do.

“This time last week we had no idea we would be here, so it’s been a massive few days.

“As soon as this feels a lot more realistic, we will start thinking about our plans and of course we should celebrate that.”

Also claiming a life-changing lottery prize was a player from Dublin who scooped the EuroMillions Plus top prize of €500,000 on Tuesday, October 3.

The Dubliner who wants to keep his winnings private has bought his winning ticket via the National Lottery app.

Recalling how he heard the news of his incredible win, the Dublin man said: “My phone lit up after the draw with an email from the lottery saying I had won a prize.

“For all I knew it could have been a fiver, I just didn’t expect something as big as this, it’s unbelievable.

“I’m going to take some time off before I make any big expenses, but I’m definitely going to plan a nice, sunny family vacation in the coming weeks so we can celebrate properly.”
