The winner of “Squid Game: The Challenge” is getting closer to finally seeing her $4.56 million payday, but per the terms of her contract… TMZ has learned she still has to play the waiting game.
Sources tell TMZ…show champion Mai Whelan – who recently said her winnings from the Netflix series have not yet been deposited into her bank account – signed a contract with all the other participants stating that the jackpot would be paid out 30 days after the finale aired.
The finale aired on December 6, so 30 days later it would be Friday, January 5, 2024 – so Mai won’t get those millions until next year.
Actually, Mai knew all along that she would have to wait a while before the big money started rolling in… because the contract she signed informed her of the payment plan.
When she revealed last week, she still was not seen a cent …everyone took it as her complaint – but given the full context of her contract, it’s more likely that she reminded the producers that the clock was ticking!
We’re also told it’s unclear whether she will receive the money all at once or in installments.
Despite not receiving the money, Mai – who escaped Vietnam as a young girl during the communist regime – has already splurged on a number of luxury items, such as Jimmy Choo shoes and a Ralph Lauren dress.
Although Mai says that when the check comes in, she will spend it more responsibly… at a retirement home and donate to charity.
