Kim Kardashian goes to Netflix. After a weeklong bidding war, the streaming platform has acquired the distribution rights to her upcoming comedy The fifth wheel.
The reality star, SKIMS founder and aspiring fencer will lead the female-driven ensemble cast and serve as a producer on the project, Deadline reports.
No information has been released regarding plot details, nor have any casting decisions been announced, other than Kardashian.
The script comes from Paula Pell, an award-winning writer whose credits include Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock And AP Bio among other things.
Pell wrote the screenplay together with comedian Janine Brito, Pell’s wife. The pair also play a married couple in the comedy series Girls5eva, which recently moved to Netflix after two seasons on Peacock.
Pell will also produce alongside Kardashian.
The film was courted by several distributors and a theatrical release was considered before Netflix won the bid, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Although Kardashian is best known for her reality TV roles, in which she starred alongside her family for 20 seasons Keeping up with the Kardashians An! and four seasons of The Kardashians on Hulu — she has ventured into scripted projects a few times before.
Aside from some small and recurring roles on TV shows including Drop Dead Diva and CSI: NY, Kardashian has also appeared in a handful of films. She starred in 2008 Disaster moviethe 2009 sex comedy Deep in the Valley, and the 2013 one Seduction: Confessions of a Marriage Therapist.
Kardashian recently made her most notable appearance in American Horror Story: Delicate– the final season of the anthology horror series, in which she plays famed publicist Siobhan Corbyn.
