Jelly Roll sobs as he celebrates first GRAMMY nominations

Jelly roll shared his emotional reaction to his GRAMMY nominations on Friday morning, posting a video of himself in tears over the recognition on Instagram.

“I’m not sure if I’ll post this or not because I’m so emotional, but the greatest honor an artist can ever hear is that he or she has been nominated for a GRAMMY,” the country singer said through tears. “I heard that this morning. I haven’t cried like this since my dad died. I tried this video seven times, y’all. I love you all, man. So damn much.”

Jelly Roll was nominated in two categories, Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his rendition of “Save Me” with Lainey Wilson.

Below the Instagram video, Jelly Roll wrote: “I’m ashamed to post this but my wife says honesty and rawness has gotten me this far… I’ll post a more complete thought on this when I get my head together. I would just never do that.” I imagined it.”

In the comments, several celebrities celebrated Jelly’s big achievement. “YOU DESERVE IT ALL!!!!!!!! 🙌 We are so happy for you!!!!!!! Congratulations my sweet friend ❤️,” Wynonna Judd wrote.

“8x a charm. Go jelly roll!!!!!!” Added Wiz Khalifa.

“You are a supernova dad – YOU DESERVE ALL THISSSSSSS 😭😭😭😭” Bunnie wrote xo.

At the CMT Music Awards 2023 this year, Jelly Roll won Male Video of the Year, Male Breakthrough Video of the Year and Digital-First Performance of the Year, for his breakthrough song “Son of a Sinner.” At the CMA Awards on Wednesday 2023, he was nominated five times and scored a win for New Artist of the Year.

After accepting the award on Wednesday, the 38-year-old breakout star got a little carried away backstage about his award.

‘I feel so ashamed’ he told ET just after breaking his trophy. “I was so excited. I was waving it around for someone to hold. I was passing it around like a bag of popcorn. I was just letting everyone… like a sack of potatoes, like we’re all just… sharing or something. I feel me bad. Oh god.”

There is an easy and temporary solution to the problem as his official engraved trophy is sent to him. “I’ll take the one with tape,” Jelly Roll joked.

At the GRAMMYs, Jelly Roll will compete against Gracie Abrams, Fred again.., Ice Spice, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, Victoria Monét and The War and Treaty for Best New Artist.

Jelly Roll’s first major label album, out 2021 Ballad of the Broken, put him on both the rock and country charts. “Son of a Sinner,” one of the album’s countryiest songs, ultimately cemented his place in the industry. The song was released as a single in March 2022 and reached No. 1 on Billboard’s US Country Airplay chart, inspiring the singer to move even further towards the country sound for his 2023 follow-up.
