Thousands of robots in a busy fulfillment center, each capable of lifting the weight of a full-size concert piano, are used to pick and move towering stacks of online shopping orders.
The 3,000 robots at Amazon’s site in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, work alongside human staff to take orders from shelves for delivery to customers.
In the multi-story, football field-sized warehouse, the robots pick items within 20 minutes of an order being placed, then pack and ship them.
As Laura Foster reports, more than 2,500 people work at the center and another 500 people are being recruited in time for the holidays.
