Followers boo as British Grand Prix finishes behind security automotive with Leclerc victorious



A file 175,000 crowd at Silverstone was livid after being denied a final lap shoot-out with the British Grand Prix ending behind a security automotive in weird scenes.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc received from Mercedes’ George Russell following Max Verstappen’s crash with 4 laps of the race remaining.

However the packed grandstands – a part of a record-breaking 564,000 attendance throughout the race weekend – booed after the following security automotive stayed out for the ultimate lap of the race, regardless of race management signalling that it could be referred to as in.

There was no clarification for why it did so however followers have been clearly livid, booing vociferously.

A press release from the FIA later defined: “The security automotive interval regulation, Article B5. 13.5, states that one lap should be accomplished following the unlapping process. This course of was adopted by race operations. The “Security Automobile In This Lap” message was displayed erroneously resulting from a software program error.”
