David Moyes says West Ham’s Carabao Cup win over Arsenal will mean nothing when the two face each other in the Premier League tonight.
Moyes’ men beat their London rivals 3-1 in the League Cup early last month in a performance that massively boosted their fans’ hopes for more success this season.
But now that we’re seven weeks in, and with a number of up and down performances and results since then (not least the Carabao Cup being knocked off by Liverpool last week), Moyes is all too aware that that win means nothing will mean as soon as the whistle blows tonight.
”[I’m expecting] enormous challenges. Arsenal have always been a very difficult team to beat,” he said.
“We had a good result against them in the cup, but this is a different competition.
“The league brings in different players and Arsenal have changed their squad for the League Cup match so they can play with their full squad again, I have no doubt about that. Going to the Emirates Stadium has never been an easy match .”
Arsenal have the chance to go top of the table with victory and Moyes praised the “brilliant work” of Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
“I’ve been impressed with Mikel since he first came in,” Moyes said.
“He won the FA Cup and the Community Shield, so a couple of wins from the start.
“Obviously things got a bit tough at the time and there was a lot of talk about him, but he hasn’t half proven all those doubters wrong because he’s done a fantastic job at Arsenal.
“He has got them incredibly competitive, back at the top of the league and competing again. I think most Arsenal fans will be happy with Mikel.”
