I won £30,000. My first act was splashing out on a £130 kettle

A People’s Postcode Lottery winner who won a £30,000 jackpot says she will not be judged for her first act of saving a £130 kettle.

Neighbors in Kent have received a £30,000 windfall in the latest “Street Prize” lotto draw.

And one of them has revealed that her first purchase won’t be a luxury item, but one she will cherish nonetheless.

Justine White, 49, told People’s Postcode Lottery presenter Danyl Johnson that she wanted “a fancy new kettle”.

Justine, from Gillingham, said her ideal purchase would be “a nice Dualit to match my toaster”.

And she joked excitedly, “You should have seen me when I got my toaster.”

Justine, who has lived at the same address for 27 years, also has plans to treat her family.

She said: “My daughter got engaged this summer.

“Some of that will be a little nest egg for her when she and her fiancé go home.”

She was one of four neighbors in the ME7 1TB postcode who won £30,000 each, while a fifth – who played with two tickets – doubled their money to take home £60,000.

The People’s Postcode Lottery, which has been running since 2005, hands out weekly prizes to Britons based on their postcode.

Presenter Danyl said: “It was a fantastic day as we surprised the winners with our £30,000 street prize.

“I hope they all get the chance to celebrate together with a street party.

“It’s great to see the neighbors celebrating together and knowing they are also supporting good causes locally, across Britain and internationally.

“When players sign up, charities also win.”

A third of ticket prices go to charities and good causes, with National Postcode Lottery players reportedly raising more than £1.1 billion.

Even before this Gillingham jackpot, Kent was recently hailed as one of “one of Britain’s happiest counties”.

Three locals won £3 million in Lotto prizes in just two weeks.

Another People’s Postcode Lottery draw saw neighbors in the Kent town of Deal share £1 million.

Among them, pregnant mum Tamsin Burling described a close call that almost saw her miss out on an £83,000 windfall.

Neighbors welcomed the triumph, although they did describe one aspect that they said left them feeling “gutted.”

And elsewhere in Kent, another £1 million jackpot was won, including an ex-Norwich City and Bournemouth footballer and an ex-EFL manager.

Other recent winners of the People’s Postcode Lottery include a married couple from Birmingham, who will spend their winnings on honoring their late parents.

Meanwhile, one of their neighbors plans to expand her collection of terracotta garden gnomes.

Elsewhere, a Cumbrian People’s Postcode Lottery winner found out about her win just moments after receiving another life-changing phone call.
