Will Ferrell Says ‘Barbie’ Movie, Actors Deserve ‘Every Award’

Will Ferrell says he believes the cast and crew members of Barbie deserve “every accolade” that comes their way.

The actor, 56, spoke with ET’s Nischelle Turner from the red carpet of the Los Angeles premiere for May December — which the Eleven star served as executive producer. In 2023, the comedian also produced HBO’s final season Successionfrom Hulu Quiz ladyand that of Searchlight Theater camp.

During the discussion, Ferrell said it was so good to finally be back after the 118-day SAG-AFTRA strikewhich prevented him from talking about films he appeared in or promoted, including Barbie. Now that he can talk about the summer blockbuster, the beloved actor says he’s so happy the film became a huge hit.

“I think it’s great that people have come out in droves to see it and they deserve all the credit,” he told ET. “I’m so happy for Greta [Gerwig] and for Margot [Robbie] and Ryan [Gosling]’, he said. “When I read that script, I thought, this is going to be huge.”

Ferrell, who plays the CEO of Mattel in the film, described his reaction when he first stepped into the pink world of Barbie and Ken and how his instincts told him early on that the film would make an impact.

“When I walked into those sets and saw that Mattel was actually making this happen, I thought, ‘Oh my god, this could have a real chance of becoming one of those zeitgeist things that has a real cultural statement.'”

Early September, Barbie had earned over $1.4 billion at the box office worldwide.

Outside the box office, earlier this week, Barbie: The Album — the star-studded accompaniment to by Greta Gerwig record-breaking blockbuster — picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and 10 other nominations.

Four of the five nominees in best song written for visual media went to songs by Barbie – ‘I’m Just Ken’, ‘Dance the Night’, ‘What Was I Made For’ and ‘Barbie’ by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice . World.” The only outsider is Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up.” Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The film also received a lot of Oscar buzz Variety predicting nominations in the categories Outstanding Adapted Screenplay, Outstanding Director, Outstanding Film and more.
