Why Jon Pardi ‘retired’ and whether he will ever retire

Jon Pardi has been sober for more than 100 days. The end result since giving up booze? He has “lost a lot of weight,” and he loves the results.

The country crooner recently appeared on the Country heat weekly podcast and he opened up about the topic after co-host Kelly Sutton asked him what Jon Pardi’s self-care regimen looks like. The 38-year-old girl’s father said going to the steam room is “always good,” but now there’s a New Year’s resolution: facial care.

He says, “girls do it all the time.” Yes, he’s been doing the facial cleanser/lotion routine in the morning, but he now wants to implement the 15-minute nighttime routine like his wife Summer. But there’s also another crucial part of his self-care regimen, and that’s no longer indulging in booze. At the time he recorded the podcast, Pardi said he was 112 days sober, and the move has paid off in a big way.

“I lost a lot of weight,” he said. “I had pre-diabetes and thought, ‘I have to stop.'”

He said he reached a breaking point when he realized he was “unhappy” with his appearance in “every photo, every video.” Basically, he said he “just needed to take a break.”

And when he did, the weight started to melt. Suffice it to say, he likes what he sees.

“I just did a photo shoot and I was like, ‘Damn, I look good.’ Take Tito’s!” said Pardi in reference to the popular Vodka brand from Austin, Texas. “But for anyone thinking about it, if they want to lose weight and you’re drinking, let me tell you, it helps a lot if you stop.”

That said, Pardi doesn’t seem at all opposed to surrendering again one day.

“I’m retired, okay? That doesn’t mean I can’t retire,” he said. “But for now it’s great.”

Pardi agrees that while quitting alcohol has caused him to drop his LBs, he admits that having a sweet tooth has been a challenge.

“I like ice cream,” he said. “I’m like, ‘Well, I don’t drink. I better get this Twix candy ice cream.’ Coffee ice cream. So delicious.”

The lifestyle update comes about seven months after the ‘Dirt On My Boots’ singer opened to ET about fatherhood after he and Summer welcomed their first child together, daughter Presley, in February.

“The brand new. Everything is new, so that’s nice,” Pardi said in May at the Academy of Country Music Awards. “…It’s something very new, so that’s fun. Fun to learn.”

Pardi praised the little one as “amazing” and “a great baby”, saying: “She flew on the plane, didn’t cry. That’s a victory. We gained confidence. That’s her second flight. She’s been really good. “
