Simone Biles’ husband says he’s the ‘catch’ in their relationship

According to Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owenswhen he first started his romance with his current wife Simone Bileshad he never heard of the four-time Olympic gold medalist and record-breaking gymnast who is considered one of the greatest athletes of all time.

Owens, 28, and Biles, 26, recently sat down for an interview The twist podcast, and the newlyweds — who got married in April — reflected on how they first met, and that’s when Owens made his surprising revelation.

“I’m like, ‘Let me see who this is.’ I never really paid attention to gymnastics,” Owens said, recalling when Biles ran into Raya in 2020. “So it piqued my curiosity.”

While it seems unlikely or even impossible for Owens to have never heard of Biles, he did his best to explain how the Olympic hero managed to fly under his radar.

“When they won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympic channels, and we were in [training] camp in late July, early August,” he said. “So I don’t pay attention. I never had a moment where I would have looked [her perform].”

Owens added that when she first messaged him, “I didn’t know who she was at the time. But the first thing I saw was that she just had a bunch of followers. So in my mind I’m thinking, ‘Okay, she must be good.'”

That said, once they connected with Raya, things happened pretty quickly.

“She messaged me on Tuesday, and then we texted back and forth, and then on Friday we hung out,” Owens recalled. “We couldn’t do much because COVID happened and everything shut down. So she came to Houston. She lived in the suburbs, so it took her about 45 minutes to come to me. Then the rest is history.’

When host Ryan Clark asked (seemingly jokingly) if that meant Owens considered himself “the catch” in their relationship, Owens quickly — and seemingly sincerely — agreed that he did.

“I always say the men are the catch,” said Owens, sitting next to his wife, the most highly decorated gymnast in the history of the world, and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“So she really booked youClark asked as he continued to question Owens.

‘But she did! Because I fought it,” he added. “I was afraid to commit… but you know, it happens when you least expect it.”

According to Owens, the first time he realized how famous and well-liked Biles was was when they went out for ice cream together, and everyone was in awe of the world-famous Olympian.

“They were all mothers and they were there with their kids and we walked by and everyone stopped and just kept going [stared]’, Owens recalled. “Kids were just shaking, ‘Oh, my God.’

Owens introduced to Biles on Valentine’s Day. After getting married during a private ceremony at City Hall in Texas in April, Biles and Owens tied the knot for a second time in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in May.

Biles and Owens said their “I do”s in front of an audience of 144 guests, including their wedding party of eight bridesmaids and seven groomsmen.

In the months since their wedding, Biles is often seen giving her husband a supportive kiss before his matches.
