Sarah Ferguson reveals skin cancer diagnosis

Sarah Ferguson experiences another setback in her health trajectory.

On Sunday, several media reported that the Duchess of York had been diagnosed with malignant melanoma. Ferguson’s diagnosis comes after a series of moles were removed from her body when she underwent reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy.

In a statement to People From Ferguson’s representative, the Duchess thanked the medical staff and dermatologist who identified and discovered the disease.

“She believes her experience underlines the importance of monitoring the size, shape, color and texture and the appearance of new moles that could be a sign of melanoma,” the statement said.

The 64-year-old Ferguson’s representative said she finds the news of her skin cancer “disturbing.”

“Obviously a new diagnosis so soon after breast cancer treatment was worrying, but the Duchess remains in good spirits,” the rep added.

The news of Ferguson’s skin cancer comes six months later she underwent surgery for breast cancer.

In June, Ferguson’s representative released a statement sharing the news.

“Sarah, Duchess of York, was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer, discovered during a routine mammogram screening. She was advised to undergo surgery, which was successfully performed,” the statement said. “The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her the prognosis is good. She is now recovering with her family. The Duchess would like to express her enormous gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days. “

The statement continued: “She is also extremely grateful to the staff involved in the mammogram that identified her disease, which was otherwise symptom-free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.”

The next month, Ferguson opened up about the eight-hour mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

Ferguson’s news comes on the heels of a week of health concerns within the royal family. Kensington Palace announced this on Wednesday Kate Middleton was recovering from a planned abdominal surgery and would likely spend 10 to 14 days in the hospital, followed by a long recovery period at home.

That same day, Buckingham Palace shared this King Charles III would seek treatment for an enlarged prostate.

“His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure,” the statement said. “The king’s public appearances will be postponed for a short period of recovery.”
