Jonathan Bailey Dishes on filming ‘Wicked’ during the strike

Jonathan Bailey is a busy man. The 35-year-old actor recently appeared on SiriusXMs Andy Cohen Liveand discussed his projects in the works, including the upcoming one Bad movie and season 3 of Bridgerton.

While many sets were closed in July SAG-AFTRA went on strike — the hit has since ended — Bailey was able to continue his work on the project because of the type of contract he had.

“It’s pretty extraordinary,” he said. “I think we had ten more days of filming before the strike hit. I was the only actor with a stock contract, so I had these four days where I was performing and performing with people in wigs pretending to be [other actors].”

Bailey has not yet completed filming his role of Fiyero just barely, but is excited for fans to see the starring project Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.

“It’s just been the most special year. The girls, Ari and Cynthia, and everyone are going to be extraordinary,” Bailey said. “[Grande and I] have a little duet here and there, a little boogie. I also have a duet with Cynthia, so it’s a bit like the G-Force, you feel it in the face.”

Earlier this year, Bailey was hard at work filming Bad, Bridgerton And Fellow travelers at the same time.

“There was an extraordinarily long weekend that I was thinking about this morning,” he said before continuing Fellow travelersa decades-long political thriller, featuring a hidden romance between Bailey and Matt Bomer‘s characters.

“Thursday was World AIDS Day and I was lying in the bed of an AIDS ward in San Francisco and it was incredibly emotional for so many involved. It’s also a predominantly gay creative team, many of whom lived through the crisis of the 1980s,” he explained “I finished that day, went straight to the airport, slept about four hours, got picked up from Heathrow, went straight to a Regency Ball, got my hair curled and stayed there for two days.”

“On the last day I went to the Oz Dust Ball and danced with Ari and then I flew back and didn’t have a day off,” he continued. “That was it for 32 days. It was wild.”

Fellow travelers premiered last month on Showtime and Bad: Part One is off next November. As for when fans will get to see season 3 Bridgertonwhich stars Bailey as Anthony, the actor teased that it could “happen at any time,” before noting that fans will “definitely get at least four weeks of heads-up” before the Netflix series premieres.

He added, “BridgertonI think there’s so much that I’m really excited about. You’re passing the baton, but we’ll still be here.”
