Derek Hough shares an encouraging and inspiring health update about his wife, Hayley Erbert Houghfollow her multiple surgeries and traumatic brain injuries.

Hough walked the red carpet at the premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s new musical cinematic experience, This is me… Now: a love storyand the Dancing with the stars The judge spoke with ET’s Kevin Frazier about his wife’s health journey.

“She’s incredible,” Derek said. “When I married her, I knew she was strong, but until now I really didn’t realize how strong she really was.”

“I’m just in awe of her every day,” Derek added. “She’s incredible. She really is a miracle and I don’t just throw that word around, but she really is.”

Hayley was rushed to hospital on December 6, after she became “disoriented” during the couple’s performance Spectacular symphony of dance tour. Derek revealed at the time that Hayley had suffered a brain hematoma.

According to the Mayo ClinicA cranial hematoma is an accumulation of blood in the skull. It is usually caused by a blood vessel bursting in the brain. It can also be caused by trauma such as a car accident or a fall.

Hayley subsequently underwent two skull surgeries to treat the brain hematoma, and has worked hard to recover from the terrifying incident that could have cost her her life.

“It was a crazy time, but I tell you what, it was an amazing and beautiful time because all the little victories, the triumphs, it’s just incredible,” Derek told ET. “She is amazing.”

Hayley’s hospitalization came just over three months after the couple tied the knot in late Augustfor 106 guests in a redwood forest in Monterey County, California.

But before exchanging vows in real life, Derek pretended to be linked to Jennifer Lopez as part of her relationship. This is me… Now: a love story project – a fictionalized reinterpretation of the singer’s legendary love life, in which Derek plays one of her previous husbands.

“I mean, I kind of just lived a fantasy of mine, so it was great,” Derek joked about his role in the project. “It’s always an honor when Jennifer calls you and she wants you to be a part of something, whether it’s on World of Dance – which we worked on together – or this. I’m always happy to appear before her on any way.”

“She’s so great to work with and we have the same kind of creative circle around us as well,” he added. “So it’s like family, it’s really great.”

According to Derek, when they shot his part of the project, he wasn’t married yet, but was still in the planning stages, and he asked Jennifer for some advice and feedback.

“In between takes, I show her things like wedding locations and colors and, you know, cutlery and wedding dress stuff,” he recalls. “And so it was kind of a weird parallel where we’re recreating this wedding situation while I’m planning, and she’s giving me advice. So it was pretty cool.”
