A van driver has suffered severe head accidents after a boulder smashed via his windscreen and hit him after it was dropped from a bridge, police stated.
The rock was dropped from the crossing over the A617, close to Hemsley Street, Rainworth, at about 22:00 GMT on Friday, Nottinghamshire Police stated.
The 26 year-old was driving a silver Transit van when it went via the windscreen.
“We’re taking this senseless and abhorrent act extraordinarily significantly,” Supt Heather Maelor stated.
The person was taken to hospital with severe accidents and the street remained closed via Saturday morning, reopening to visitors at about 13:30 GMT.
The closure on the A617 was between the roundabout at Kirklington Street and the junction with the A6191.
Any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage had been urged to come back ahead by Supt Maelor.
