Political latest news: MPs reject all ten amendments to the watered-down Rwanda law

Ben Wallace has told Tory rebels it is “too late” to replace Rishi Sunak and they must focus on winning the next general election.

The former Defense Secretary said the Tory leadership's 'shenanigans' only benefit the Labor Party.

He told Times Radio: “There comes a point in the election cycle when you effectively put on your best suit, stand up and march towards the sound of the guns and you get on with it.

“Rishi Sunak is the Prime Minister. He explained his plan. He set out his idea and vision, which I believe is aimed at effectively and rightly restoring the economy and reducing inflation. If we reduce inflation, we could see interest rates fall.

“Whether colleagues are happy with him or not, it's too late, right. Keep it up. Stand up. And you know, at some point this year we will commit to participating in the general election and putting forward our best arguments. There is no other alternative. And that's just the reality.”

He added: “Ultimately the Labor Party is the only victor in such pranks. But actually, look, we've been in government for fourteen years, time to put forward our best arguments, whenever that may be.
