Jay-Z is more than just a father: he’s also a style consultant.
The famous 53-year-old may not have gotten one of his daughter’s stamps of approval for his fashion sense in the past, but he has it now. In conversation with Gayle King op CBS morningsJay-Z talked about how Blue Ivy, 11, has warmed up to the idea of being the “cool” dad.
“She used to be a little head-on with me,” Jay-Z admitted. “But 1698349682 I’ll catch her. I catch her in the corner, you know? Now she’s asking me, you know, if this is cool, if her sneakers [are cool].”
King, 68, further inquired whether Blue Ivy actually goes to her father for advice on what to wear. “Yes, yes, yes,” the “Empire State of Mind” singer exclaimed.
But while Blue Ivy’s perception of Jay-Z may be improving, he explained that she used to be a little overly ashamed of him and he had to explain that he was really hip.
“There was a time when she thought, ‘Daaaaad‘,’ he joked. To this he would normally respond, “I’m cool. I do not know what you’re saying. I am cool! You have nice parents! At your home, with your parents [are] cool.”
As a mother like daughter, Blue Ivy’s interest in style is not surprising considering both her mother and father’s position in the fashion world. In recent months, the “Lemonade” creator has donned a daring designer every night of her Renaissance tour, from custom Versace to Alexander McQueen.
During a conversation, David Koma reflected on what it was like to dress the sought-after music legend for her world tour Harper’s Bazaar.
“For us, the designers, it is not only great exposure, but also a wonderful cultural moment to be a part of,” said the creative. “A global tour like this is an incredible, culture-defining event.”
“If you’ve seen some of the videos from this tour, you just know that it’s a once-in-a-lifetime, magical performance that every participant will remember forever,” he continued. “Given the creativity involved in putting on such a show, it makes sense to collaborate with designers for special couture and custom looks.”
Beyoncé’s series of 57 concerts was special for countless reasons, but the fact that she was able to share the stage with her eldest daughter was the icing on the cake. Blue Ivy danced with her mother to songs such as ‘My Power’ and ‘Black Parade’ during several concerts along the way.
After the young prodigy’s first performance in Paris, Beyoncé took to Instagram to share how meaningful the experience of having her daughter perform with her was.
“My beautiful first born. I am so proud and grateful to be your mom. You bring us so much joy, my sweet angel,” she wrote alongside a slide deck of images from the show.
Blue Ivy is one of three children that Jay-Z and Beyonce share. The two welcomed twins Rumi and Sir in June 2017. The ‘Single Ladies’ singer and ‘Part II’ artist got married 15 years ago in front of an intimate group of close friends and family.
