Aston Villa have a deal in place to sign defender Jan Bednarek from Southampton, The Athletic understands.
West Ham United were close to an agreement, but the 26-year-old has decided to join Villa, and is believed to be heading to undergo a medical.
Southampton are believed to be happy with the terms of the deal.
The Athletic reported two weeks ago that Villa had made an approach for Bednarek, following the serious injury sustained by new signing Diego Carlos.

Southampton, meanwhile have tried to move for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips but the Anfield club are reluctant to let him go. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are now working on two centre-back options and if they get one, Bednarek will be allowed to leave.
The Athletic reported earlier on Thursday that Southampton are hoping to sign Croatian defender Duje Caleta-Car from Marseille.
Bednarek, a 42-time Poland international, wants regular game time ahead of World Cup.
Bednarek has three years left on his current deal but The Athletic reported earlier this year that Southampton were open to a sale as they looked to trim Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad.
They are looking for a replacement, however, after sanctioning a loan move to Bournemouth for Jack Stephens.Bednarek was signed for £4million from Lech Poznan in 2017 and has made 133 Premier League appearances for Southampton.
