I was ready to quit my job when I won the lottery, but it was so disappointing

MANY of us could only dream of what it must feel like to win the lottery.

But someone who knows exactly what that’s like after getting the winning number on a scratch card has said he/she was bitterly ‘disappointed’.

Via TikTok (@how_did_this_get_here), Beks explains exactly why winning the lottery was a “very humbling experience”.

“Long story short, I bought a $20 scratch card because I thought the odds were higher,” Beks begins.

“I’m not much of a gambler. It was a $10,000 a week scratch card for life and I scratched it off.”

Beks then shared a clip of what happened right afterward, continuing: “It was my lunch break and I just went outside and didn’t tell anyone.

“I went straight to the lottery office and was ready for a week of $10,000 for life, so I was able to quit that job – except I didn’t read it right… because it was just now $10k.

“And after taxes that’s €6,000 and I had to go back to work and explain why I was away for so long.

“So yeah, I was humiliated to say the least.”

Beks captioned the post: “Taxes are the real villain in this story.”

The story quickly went viral, racking up a whopping 1.4 million views online and hundreds of comments from social media users.

“$6,000 is a lot of money,” one wrote.

I bragged to my work and family that I won a £1 million lottery jackpot, but I only got 20p after a stupid code error

Beks hit back: “I never said it wasn’t the case. I just thought the price was more than what I ended up getting.

“It was disappointing, but I was very happy anyway. I couldn’t say everything I wanted to in the video.”

A second wrote: ‘It’s infuriating that taxes took almost half of it.’

A third commented: “$20 for $6k – not bad!”

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “$6,000 is nice but to expect $10,000 a week for life. I know you were heartbroken lol.”

And someone else shared their own story, writing: “One time I thought I won $10,000 or $100,000.

“I called the lottery office to see what was true, only to find out I had only won $3.”
