I bought a fancy RV with my huge lottery winnings, but traded it in for an SUV

A £1 MILLION lottery winner has revealed how he spent his winnings – after buying a fancy new campervan and trading it in for an SUV.

When Steve Glover won the staggering sum, he promised he would go out and buy a house in a place he 'fell in love' years ago.

The 73-year-old former taxi driver won the bag of medicines after checking his numbers on a tablet last year, but had to ask his ex-wife to read them out to him before he believed it.

He said: “I can still remember the moment I checked the Lotto results on my tablet and recognized my numbers straight away.

“I had to call my best friend, and then my ex-wife asked everyone to read the numbers to me to make sure I wasn't looking at the wrong thing.”

After he won, he promised himself he would hit the road and drive 1,000 miles to the Scottish Highlands and buy a new house 20 miles south of John O'Groats.

The pensioner first “fell in love” with the area while stationed at RAF Leuchars.

He said: “I drove for the RAF Go-Kart racing team during my time at Leuchars. You could say the RAF gave me my two great loves in life, Scotland and a fascination with just about anything with an engine. “

But the lucky winner didn't stay in a go-kart for long and soon swapped it for a top-of-the-range camper, before swapping it for an SUV and a new home.

He said: “I bought myself a luxury camper van, treated my best friend to one too and then said goodbye to Exeter on the way to a 1,000 mile road trip to find my dream home in Scotland.

“Taking that drive in a swanky new campervan was great, but I quickly realized it was too wide to be practical on the narrow streets of the Highlands, so I've now swapped that for a smaller, more practical SUV.

“Clearly I'm not destined to be practical for too long because when I saw the old Bentley for sale I couldn't resist and tried it out as a Christmas treat.”

The millionaire didn't stop there, investing in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with various attachments to help him manage his land and even bought an old Land Rover pickup.

He said: “For someone like me, who has always loved anything with an engine, it is an absolute dream to be in this wonderful position to 'play'. I'm like a kid in a candy store.

“I still pinch myself how much has changed for the better for me. One week before my life-changing victory.

'I was quite tired of thinking that my Scottish dream would never come true, and then Lady Luck smiled at me and the rest, as they say, is history.'

The lucky winner said he spent 30 years driving people around in taxis, but now spends his time driving a flashy new Bentley and an ATV.

He said: “I am absolutely overwhelmed by how life has turned out.”

This comes after another recent lotto winner revealed the first item he bought after winning was a kettle – and has already planned what to do with the rest of the money.
