Taylor Swift's father is not facing charges for allegedly assaulting a photographer

Taylor Swift's father, Scott Swiftwill not press charges after that allegedly attacked a paparazzi photographer in Australia last month.

In a statement to ET, a member of the New South Wales Police Media Unit told ET that on February 27, Australian police “conducted an investigation following a report of an assault” involving “Papa Swift” 72, and concluded that “no further police action” was required or would be taken in the incident.

According to TheAustralian.comThe incident took place at the Neutral Bay Wharf when Taylor and her father stepped off a ferry and were bombarded by people waiting for them on land. The photographer involved, Ben McDonald, 51, spoke to NCA Newswire after the fact and claimed Scott became aggressive towards him before jumping into a car with Taylor.

In late February, a representative of the New South Wales Police Media Unit confirmed for the first time in a statement that an investigation was underway, but did not share the names of those involved, only identifying the parties by their ages.

“Police are investigating an alleged attack on Sydney's North Shore this morning,” a representative said at the time. “Police have been advised that a 71-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf at around 2.30am (Tuesday 27 February 2024) before leaving the location. The younger man reported the incident and an investigation is now underway. underway by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command.”

In his interview with NewsWire, McDonald shared a video of the alleged attack and told the station that he did not recognize Scott as the alleged perpetrator until he viewed the footage. Scott was in Sydney with his 34-year-old daughter for her Eras Tour shows at the time.

“I looked back at the photos and saw he was holding Taylor's hand. That's when it became clear it was her father,” McDonald said.

He added that he suffered a bruised ego “more than anything.”

Another video shared with 9News Sydney of the alleged attack shows another angle where Scott, Taylor and several security guards walk to the singer's waiting vehicle while members of the security team hold back a photographer – supposedly McDonald.

In a statement after the altercation, a spokesperson for Taylor told ET: “Two individuals aggressively pushed their way towards Taylor, grabbed her security staff and threatened to throw a female staff member into the water.”
