Sydney Sweeney took to the Saturday evening live stage during the weekend for her debut as a presenter, and she used her monologue to address the “craziest rumor” she's ever heard about herself online.
The Euphoria star was all smiles as she delivered a fun monologue in which she made fun of herself and proved that she knows how to make fun of some of her own projects.
“I'm so happy to be here! My name is Sydney Sweeney. You may have seen me Everyone but you or Euphoria. You certainly didn't see me inside Mrs. Web' she joked. 'Tonight I'd like everyone to get to know the real me. I feel like people only see me as the girl on TV who screams, cries and has sex – sometimes it's all three at the same time. But I am more than that.”
After explaining the “five-point plan to get into acting” when she was younger — and her backup plan, which involved simply “showing boobs,” she decided to use the stage to address some random speculation that swirled about her online.
“The craziest rumor I have is that I had an affair with my co-star while filming Everyone But You. Glen PowellSweeney said, addressing the high-profile speculation that broke out while the pair were filming the rom-com.
“That is clearly not true,” Sweeny emphasized. 'Me and my fiancée [Jonathan Davino] produced the film together, and he was there for the entire shoot.”
“And I just want everyone to know that he is the man of my dreams, and that we are still together and stronger than ever. He even came here tonight to support me. Can we cut him off?' Sweeney said, before the cameras panned to Powell himself who was sitting in the audience and smiling awkwardly.
“That's not my fiancée!” Sweeney shouted, laughing. “He's in my dressing room! But we have a great show for you tonight!”
However, that wasn't the only appearance Powell made during the episode.
In the final sketch of the evening, Sweeney plays a woman who is on a date with her boyfriend (played by Andrew Dismukes) at a loud restaurant, and towards the end of the sketch, without anything happening, her boyfriend asks , how her day had arrived and Sweeney drops a real bombshell.
“Oh yeah, I cheated on you with my boss and I think we should break up,” she says nonchalantly, as Powell steps up for his brief cameo.
“Hey Babycakes, you wanna get out of here?” he says with a winning smile, as she gets up and leaves with the handsome star.
The infidelity twist feels so out of nowhere that some fans wondered if the joke was added at the last minute since Powell was present, providing a perfect opportunity to poke fun at the cheating speculation one last time.
While filming their rom-com project across Australia last year, rumors began to circulate of a romance between the co-stars, which was later exacerbated after Powell's model-designer girlfriend, Gigi Paris, stopped it after three years of dating during Powell and Sweeney's press tour for the film in mid-2023.
Powell and Sweeney have since addressed the rumors in separate interviews. Sweeney told Variety she “felt beaten up' the rumors, especially when she couldn't stand up for herself. The same way, Powell said Men's health that the rumors were “disorienting and unfair.“
However, the pair have been good friends since they started working together, and ET went behind the scenes during filmingwhere Powell talked about his great on-screen chemistry with Sweeney.
“A great romcom can't survive without great chemistry, and Sydney is the easiest person to have chemistry with,” Powell told ET. “I mean, it was immediately like we'd known each other for a long time, and I think anyone who's been on set realizes that I never get tired of talking to Sydney. We make each other laugh. She's amazing , clearly one of the most We have so many talented actresses. This movie itself felt like a rom-com because it's very easy to pretend you're falling in love with Sydney.”
E.T. too spoke with Powell on the SAG Awards red carpet last weekendand he praised Sweeney for taking over the SNL challenge.
“S.N.L., that's a different sandbox, and she's really ready for it. She's going to kill it,” he shared. “I'm going to New York this week and I'll see her live.”
However, Powell downplayed the likelihood of him appearing in a skit, explaining, “I think I'll probably stay in the locker room.” I'll be in Lorne's little booth. But I'll be there to support her, and she's going to do great.”
