As Tom informed the conference viewers… SpongeBob is “a bit of bit on the spectrum” and he even referred to as the cartoon character autistic.

TK says he got here to this revelation after speaking to a fan with autism who requested if SpongeBob may probably be autistic too. He recalled telling the fan… autism was SpongeBob's superpower, identical to it was for that child.

This isn't the primary time Tom has addressed SpongeBob and the chance that he's autistic. In 2012, he spoke to Marc Maron and speculated that Sponge is perhaps autistic … citing his obsession along with his job and his hyperfixational tendencies as proof.

SpongeBob isn't the primary kids's character to be recognized with autism spectrum dysfunction. “Sesame Road” added a Muppet named Julia to their roster… who explicitly had autism.
