Ricky Martin on His Anti-Aging Secrets and the Impact of 'Palm Royale'

Ricky Martin I missed the memo when it comes to aging. Call it the curious case of Kiki.

Speaking to ET's Nischelle Turner about his latest project: AppleTV+'s upcoming comedy series, Palm Royale — the 52-year-old said he shaved for an entire year to convey the character of Carol Burnett's friendly valet, Robert. The fresh look only made Martin look much younger, but his anti-aging secret is a much simpler approach.

“Old melanin and good living,” says Martin. “I can drink a lot of water. No drugs or alcohol. Maybe that's it.”

Maybe it's the genuine happiness he exuded while participating in AppleTV+'s upcoming series, starring Martin, Burnett, Kristen Wiig, Kaia Gerber, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb and Amber Chardae Robinson. Royal Palm Set in 1969, it follows an ambitious woman named Maxine Simmons (Wiig), who strives to cross the line between the haves and have-nots to secure her place at America's most exclusive, fashionable, and treacherous table: high society from Palm Beach.

The series premieres on AppleTV+ on March 20, and the process from start to finish was nothing short of exciting for Martin, who didn't miss a beat when asked if he would like to rejoin the series if there were to be another season.

“Of course I'm in!” he exclaimed to ET. “This experience changed my life. If this is what acting is about, I think I won the lotto. Thank you God for everything I've been through in this whole process. And again, being able to tell stories that are relatable for people out there. People who are struggling with their identity and who can shed some light with a little sense of humor.'

For Martin, working with Hollywood giants like Wiig and Burnett proved both challenging and rewarding at the same time. For example, collaborating with Wiig challenged Martin to leave everything on the table. Well, the script anyway.

“For me it was important not to go into work with my script in hand,” Martin explained. “You know, read it. Leave it in the trailer and be open to whatever happens.”

There was a lot of improvisation on set, especially with Wiig, who had given a masterclass, and hilarity ensued.

“She's a force. She is a force,” Martin said. “And for me it was a challenge at first. But then I loved it because yeah, they say action and then they say cut and what happens in between is up to you to play with. You clearly have a story to tell them, but Go there. Go there eventually, but have fun. And the same thing happened to Laura and the same thing happened to Carol.”

Palm Royale premieres March 20 on AppleTV+.
