Maya Rudolph Talks Possible 'Bridesmaids' Sequel, Return to 'SNL'

Maya Rudolf understands why fans are petitioning so hard to get a Bridesmaids follow-up.

Speaking to ET ahead of the Season 2 premiere of her Apple TV+ show: Lootthe 51 year old Saturday evening live alum addressed recent comments from her co-star and friend, Kristen Wiigabout the possibilities for a sequel to the 2011 comedy.

“It was never a conversation,” Wiig, 50, said The Hollywood Reporter. “That story came to an end, and it's so loved by me for ten million reasons, and I think it's okay to just let it exist in the world as it is.”

In response, Rudolph – who played Lilian, the bride-to-be in the Paul Feig-directed film – said that she respects Wiig's decision and that she will have no say in whether or not Bridesmaids sequel moving forward.

“I've seen that. I mean, if she feels like that…” the actress and comedian said. “I don't know. I feel like people are always looking for an answer from me. That's not up to me.”

Rudolph added, “We had the best time with it, so I feel like I understand it.”

To this day, the film remains the highest-grossing Judd Apatow project, grossing $288 million worldwide at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo. In addition, Wiig and her writing partner, Annie Mumolo, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Bridesmaids also starred Rose Byrne, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Jon Hamm and Melissa McCarthy – who received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.

As for whether she'll revive another character she's known for: her portrayal of Vice President Kamala Harris S.N.L. — the actress certainly hasn't ruled out a return to Studio 8H at Rockefeller Plaza, saying it could be Harris' “time to shine.”

It would be like going home for the star, who spent seven years of her life on the show and developed close relationships with everyone in the cast. So much so that when asked, she couldn't pinpoint any favorite memories. She said, “I have too many.”

“I feel like I didn't realize how young we were and how much we had to play together,” she said of her time on the comedy series. “And that's the best thing about that network of people. There are so many wonderful people that I'm fortunate to have in my life because of that show.”

Another thing she is grateful for is the opportunities she provides SNL provided after her departure in 2007. Except Bridesmaidsin which the actress plays a leading role Adults, disappointed, big mouths, the right place and more. Most recently, fans have been eating up her role as Molly Wells – the ex-wife of a tech billionaire whose divorce made her the third-richest woman in the world – in Loot.

When it comes to season 2, Rudolph promises even more jokes and pranks, some in the same vein as her parody appearance on Hot in season 1. During that bit, Rudolph's character had a hilarious breakdown while eating chicken wings with host Sean Evans. Outside the show, the scene became a meme and spawned an idea for opening the new part of the show.

Rudolph also teased a possible love connection between her character and Arthur, played by Nat Faxon. The pair had some unspoken chemistry throughout Season 1 that will definitely carry over into Season 2.

“I tease that there's definitely a flirtation and there's a connection, and I think they're both looking,” she said.

Loot season 2 premieres April 3 on Apple TV+.
