James Corden’s scriptwriters might perhaps wish they were instead working in a restaurant after Ricky Gervais appeared to capture Corden retelling one of his jokes on American television this week.
Gervais tweeted a clip of Corden on The Late Late Show telling a joke involving Twitter, guitar lessons and a town square, upon which Gervais wrote: “The bit about the town square advert for guitar lessons is brilliant.”
Others on social media then compared Corden’s monologue to material performed by Gervais during his 2018 stand-up special Humanity, with many word-for-word similarities noted. Gervais, who is arguably as well known as Corden in the United States, later deleted his tweet, however, and came to the defence of his fellow British comedian.
