3 great UK tech jobs to apply for this week – Growth Business

Last week, the EU Parliament gave a nod to the 'AI Act', a legislative package that was already proposed in 2021, but which has become even more relevant in the past 18 months since the phenomenal success of generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT.

The EU's regulatory approach is multifaceted and will be enforced on a rolling schedule depending on the level of risk. This will lead to an outright ban later this year on the forms of AI considered to pose the greatest risk. Twelve months after the law comes into force, more rules will apply, and further provisions will be implemented in 2026.

And even though Britain is no longer a member of the bloc, the law is likely to have knock-on effects. The EU's decision is groundbreaking and other jurisdictions are likely to look at its impact and see how they can follow suit.

Brussels has already proven itself to be an influential technology regulator, with the GDPR as an example. Furthermore, AI companies that want to operate within the EU will have to comply with the new regulations, which could ultimately have knock-on effects.

How the rollout will proceed is yet to be determined, but with the World Economic Forum predicting in its latest Future of Jobs Report that employment for data analysts and scientists, big data specialists, AI machine learning specialists and cybersecurity specialists professionals are expected to grow by 30 percent on average by 2027, it looks positive for the sector.
