A plane turned into a fireball after it crashed near a busy Tennessee highway on Monday, killing five people on board as the terrifying scene was captured on video.
The small plane was flying from Kentucky to Nashville last night when the pilot made a radio call to a nearby control tower requesting an emergency landing after the single engine failed and all power was lost.
Air traffic controllers cleared the plane to land on runway 2 at Nashville's John C. Tune Airport. But moments later the pilot called the radio again to report that they would not make the runway.
What happened next was filmed by highway security cameras. Lo and behold… the plane skims over the busy highway and explodes in flames behind a Costco store. The pilot and four passengers were killed instantly.
Nashville Fire Department trucks rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames without damaging critical evidence for the investigation.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are now investigating the crash to determine the cause.
Our thoughts go out to the loved ones of everyone aboard the single-engine plane that crashed near Interstate 40 this evening.

Local officials, meanwhile, closed the eastbound lanes of I-40 as investigators sifted through the wreckage, with some lanes reopening for the Tuesday morning rush hour.
Mayor of Nashville Freddie O'Connell expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and praised the work of the fire brigade.
